Overview: Congressman Steve Watkins was sworn in On January 3rd as one of the incoming members of the freshman class of 2019 and will serve on the  Foreign Affairs and Education & Labor Committees.  He represents the KS-02 Congressional district and comes to Washington with a wide range of strong credentials.  During his career – much of it spent in the US Army – he has at times been an engineer, builder, businessman, Airborne Ranger and even a dog musher in the Iditarod and mountain climber to Mt Everest (both of these last two feats accomplished in the same year, 2015). After high school, he matriculated to West Point, then Harvard and eventually earned a master’s degree from MIT.  He joined the Army and served for 10 years in the environmental extremes of Alaska and Afghanistan, finally retiring as an Army Captain.
